Playing with the keyboard?

Postby luckyluca » Sat Feb 20, 2010 1:50 pm

Hello,

I'm currently playing the demo and enjoying it, thanks for such a great game.
I'm thinking about purchasing the full version and was wondering if it is possible to use the keyboard to play (i.e. WASD or arrows to control thrust).
I'm not a big fan of mouse controlled games and do prefer either joypads or keyboards.

Thanks a lot
Luca

Hi luckyluca,

You can use the arrows or WASD to control zooming and timewarping, but choosing the direction to eject mass has to be done via mouse or trackpad, as it's really a "continuous" control.
That said, we plan to release an update with joypad/controller support at some point.

Cheers,
Eddy

In the meantime, for joypad controls, you may find this useful:

Control most PC software from Xbox 360 controller:

http://www.battlesnake.co.uk/soft.html

Scroll down to Xmouse (taking a brief read of the EULA and instructions of course!)

Please read the help image (via the help link, just above the download button).
This explains the actual mapping used between gamepad and keyboard/mouse

All of my software there is free, not crippled or timebombed, and to the best of my
knowledge, contains no spyware/adware/malware (although I do not own the
hosting server, so do of course run a virus check if you're doubtful).

If you have any suggestions (such as an Osmos-specific version of Xmouse), please
free to email me (I don't check this board very often).
My email address is mark@battlesnake.co.uk

Eventually, I will add a custom-assignment list to Xmouse, whereby one can choose
what each control is mapped to.
